Elder Law --- A New Florida Bar Section

Reprinted Summer 1992

Nearly one year ago, the Florida Bar had a 45 member Commission on Elderly, now there is a new Elder Law Section with nearly 600 members. Many are non-lawyer affiliates which allows networking to solve the various problems in dealing with the ever growing elder population of Florida.

There are several committees within this section, some are: Legislation, Substantive Law, Estate and Financial Planning, Guardianship, Health Care and Government Benefits, Institutionalized Elderly, and Victimization. As you can see by these committee titles, a wide variety of areas are to be covered.

In addition, our own Ray Parri serves on the Executive Council and is co-chair of the Estate and Financial Planning Committee.

This Section is working closely with the new Florida Dept. of Elder Affairs. The Elder Law Section crosses over many other sections and areas of the practice of law.
