Checking your Social Security Earnings

Reprinted June 1994

Something most people assume is correct is Social Security earnings. Sometimes there are errors in the records, there are incomplete earnings records and/or improperly credited accounts. You can receive a copy of your earnings and benefits statement from the Social Security Administration at 1-800-772-1213. Request form SSA-7004-SN. A few weeks after returning this completed form, you should receive an earnings statement.

If there are errors, Social Security may require evidence of earnings. Photocopies of W-2's or photocopies of tax returns for the year in question can be used as proof
